Balboa Park Engagement: Kristen and Justin

Kristen and Justin: amazingly warm, uber classy, all smiles, and romantics! Completely heartwarming, Justin proposed at a location to their home in San Diego so that they could visit this place over and over again in their future. As San Diego residents, Balboa Park made the perfect iconic backdrop for their engagement session that will soon be followed by their wedding at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, followed with a gorgeous reception at the San Diego Botanic Gardens!

Kristen and Justin, I cannot wait to document your day! I'm looking forward to every detail we talked about! xo, Evelyn

Artelexia Frida Khalo Dinner

Feliz cumpleanos, Frida! This week marks Frida Khalo's 111th birthday and what better way to celebrate her than with a Frida Khalo themed, private dinner party hosted by Elexia and her team from San Diego based Artelexia! Combining vibrant, bold colors, textures, and patterns and hosted at a secret location in San Diego, Elexia paid great attention to every table scape detail, including vintage dish ware and tins, hand selected florals and candles galore to set the tone of the intimate event with Frida touches everywhere.

Give me a gorgeous tablescape with well thought out details, and I'm happy. Give me said table combined with amazing food, drink, and people coming together for an evening of celebrations, and you make my heart flutter! Serve Oaxacan queso, tamales, chocolate, and paletas - because I love Oaxacan everything - and I'm in heaven! This event was an absolute dream to photograph and be a part of! Thank you Elexia and team for being phenomenal hosts! - Un abrazo, Evelyn

Look at 'Baby Frida' below! The cutest portrait I've ever seen :)

Queso fresco, queso ramonetti, FRESH tortilla chips, three kinds of salsas, guacamole, and Oaxacan chocolate. I mean, include emoji-heart-eyes! I could have simply eaten this as a meal!

La Jolla Proposal: Noor and Joe

Noor loves photos, and her love, Joe knows this, so as he planned his proposal to her, he knew he would like this one in a lifetime moment captured for her. This is where I came in: with careful coordination with Joe and Joe's best friend, Zach, who found me and recommended La Jolla Cove for him to propose, we came up with a no fail plan.

These two love to stay active - they met at CrossFit! - so despite not being in work out clothes, it was not difficult to get Noor onto the cliffs and near the ocean, where Joe bent down on one knee and received an absolute yes from Noor!

Noor and Joe, I'm beyond thrilled for you! Joe (and Zach!), thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special moment! xo, Evelyn

Tom Ham's Lighthouse Wedding: Carly and Alex, Part Two

Knowing Carly and Alex are true adventurers, willing to take risks - in forms of time, comfort, or even weather - to get what they wanted on their wedding day, I asked Carly, "If time were not an issue, where would you dream of having your portraits taken?" Without hesitation she said, Sunset Cliffs. This long stretch of cliffs overseeing the Pacific Ocean in San Diego is one of Carly and Alex's favorite places, where we took their engagement photos, and what Carly envisioned as the perfect backdrop.

I said, "Let's make it happen" and with a few tweaks to the schedule, Carly got her wish to be held by the man of her dreams, standing on the cliffs she loves, with the perfect amount of wind blowing through her hair on her wedding day.

Returning to an epic reception at Tom Ham's Lighthouse, Carly and Alex's tight bonds with friends and family was truly evident as speech after speech resulted in laughs and cheering and some tears, only for the party to get truly started with traditional Greek dance moves - including a flip! - by Alex!

Carly and Alex, I smile as I type this because I know I can always count on you both to be fun and willing to push the envelope. Alex, I loved how you had a list of very serious questions for me over our first coffee - it meant how serious and involved you were in wedding planning - and I admired that! Carly, my dearest Carly! You energy is infectious and how you speak to people, myself included, is so warm and caring. Thank you both for allowing me to capture your special day! xoxo, Evelyn

Tom Ham's Lighthouse Wedding: Carly and Alex, Part One

When I think about Carly and Alex, I think of all of the build up towards the mini events prior to their wedding day as well as the build up for the big day! See, when Carly and I first spoke over the phone, we had to make plans to meet a few weeks later as we were both going on international vacations the following week. I already knew these two loved to adventure and the build up to meet to talk all things wedding (and talk about our trips!) made me so very excited.

For their engagement session, I remember sitting in my car, texting with Carly about different outfit combinations, knowing that I would later ask them how adventurous they wanted to get. I said, "Tell me if at any point you want me to stop" as I climbed large rocks and stepped into the ocean with shoes on at Sunset Cliffs with Carly and Alex saying, "Keep going! We are good!" I knew they would be in!

A few weeks prior to their wedding day, Carly and I spoke on the phone, talking honeymoon plans and gushing over photos of her dress that she had just texted me. The build up was only growing for their wedding day!

We began the day with each Carly and Alex getting ready with loved ones - Carly's niece was simply the cutest when putting Carly's shoes on for her - and Alex, completely touched by Carly's wedding gift was completely enchanted with her as she walked down the isle at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church.

As the ceremony ended, Tom Ham's Lighthouse transformed to what Carly and Alex envisioned to have for their reception was completed: overlooking the water and Downtown San Diego, gorgeous pieces from Rickety Swank Vintage Rentals, beautiful florals from Blue Bell Florals, and careful coordination from Details, Darling brought the space together!

As their guests headed to the reception, Carly and Alex smiled on as they headed to the place and time we had all most built up: their portraits at Sunset Cliffs!

Part Two of Carly and Alex's traditional Greek orthodox wedding and Tom Ham's Lighthouse wedding reception will include all of their dreamy cliff side, ocean facing portraits! Stay tuned! - Evelyn!
